Dear Sir / Madam,

We are happy to inform you that we are conducting “Inter School Cultural Competitions – 2011” for the school children from 7th August, 2011 to 11th September, 2011.

The details, rules and schedule of the competitions are attached along with the ‘Registration Form’.

We request you to kindly encourage and send as many children as possible from your esteemed School, to participate enthusiastically, in order to find out their hidden excellences in these fields.

A special award will be given to:

1. The school getting maximum points depending upon the number and rank of prizes won by its students;

2. The School from which the maximum candidates participate.

Last date for registration:

For All Competitions   : 1st August, 2011

Kindly send the Registration forms which are duly filled along with the fees before the above mentioned date.

General Rules:
  • Registered participants ONLY are allowed to take part in competitions.
  • A student can participate in all competitions.
  • Registration has to be made for each competition separately.
  • Entrance fees for each competition is Rs 20/-
  • Participation Certificate will be given to all Candidates for each competition on the prize distribution day only.
  • Proxies will not be allowed. In case the participant fails to attend the competition, Math will not refund the entrance fees.
  • Participants should come to the competition premises at least 15 minutes ahead of the scheduled time.
  • Math reserves the right to deny participation to candidates appearing late or if found misbehaving.
  • Judges’ decision will be final.

Last date for registration for all Competitions is: 1st Aug, 2011

Specific Details:

1.      Fancy Dress Competition
No rented or readymade costumes are allowed.
  • The participant should bring all the fancy dress materials and make-up materials.
  • No accompanying music is allowed during the presentation.

Theme for Fancy dress competition is for both groups: Participants own choice

2. Shloka Competition
  • Verses for chanting is enclosed
  • Shloka should be sung with tune
  • Out of 15 any 10 can be sung
  • No accompaniments
3. Painting Competition
  • Math will provide papers for painting
  • Duration of competition is 2 Hours
  • The candidate should bring colors and related painting material.
  • The subject of painting for both groups:  Participants own choice

3. Gita Chanting Competition

Only solo chanting will be allowed.

  • For 5th / 6th / 7th Std: Srimad Bhagvad Gita Chapter 14th full should be memorized.
  • For 8th / 9th /10th Std: Srimad Bhagvad Gita Chapter 17th Shloka 2 to 22 should be memorized.
  • No prompting will be allowed.
  • Criteria  which will be considered while deciding the winners are: 1. Pronunciation     2. Memorization  3. Delivery
4. Essay Writing Competition
  • Math will provide A4 size papers for essay writing
  • Duration of competition is one and half an hour.
  • This competition is for 8th, 9th and 10th Standard students ONLY.
  • Subject of the essay is “Service to man is service to God”  The relevance of Swami Vivekananda’s this teaching to the Modern India
  • The essay can be written in English / Kannada.
  • Size of the essay should not be more than 3 – 5 pages.
  • Criteria considered while deciding the winners are:

•     Understanding of the Subject    • Presentation   • Language • Handwriting

  • Reference Book: “Service / Karma yoga” (available with our library / book shop)
  • Duration – 2 hours
5. Quiz
  • Each team will consist of Three students only.
  • The Subject matters are: Ramayana and Mahabharata

Reference books: Ramayana and Mahabharata of Raja Gopalachari.C

Criteria that are considered while deciding the winners, are:  Grasping of idea & Presentation

Duration – 5 min

Topic for juniors – 5th / 6th / 7th std        Honesty in everyday life

Rural Educational Service Activities – 2011 concluded

Rural Educational Service Activities of Ramakrishna Math, Ulsoor, Bangalore

By the Grace of the Lord, our Math has completed Rural Educational Service Activities for this academic year 2011-12. For the Past 8 years our Ashrama distributed Notebooks, Dictionary, Stationeries and other study materials to school children who are studying in the Government Primary & High Schools, and Rural Coaching Centers.

Distribution started on 8th June 2011. Children are taught prayers, general hygiene and are introduced to teachings of Swami Vivekananda.

15,130 students, studying in 144 Selected Govt. Schools & Pre University Colleges, and 19 Rural Coaching Centers, situated at (remote/backward) 131 villages from 4 Taluks (Pawgada, Madhugiri, Hosakote, Kanakapura) in Karnataka, India are benefited by this project in this academic year 2011-12.

Viveka Express” – An Exhibition Train in Bangalore

As a part of 150th Birth Anniversary Celebration, Indian Railway has inaugurated “Viveka Express” – An Exhibition Train, describing the life and teachings of Swami Vivekananda. The train is all the importance cities and towns of our country. The train is coming to Bangalore at Cantonment Railway Station. Days of Exhibition: From Saturday, 18th June 2011 to Monday, 20th June 2011. Timing: daily 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. No Platform ticket. Scheduled Inauguration will be at 9.30 a.m. at Cantonment Railway Station.

PS from Webteam: Just to give all a glimpse of kind of activities which would be conducted, here is the report for last year’s summer camp.

Dear Friends and Devotees,

In order to introduce our Indian Culture and Moral Values to the school children, every year we conducting Inter School Cultural Competitions.

This year, the following competitions were held between 21stAugust, 2010 to 18th September, 2010 for the children from L.K.G. to X Standard:

1. Srimat Bhagavad Gita Chanting – 7th Chapter for Primary School students and 9th Chapter for High School students.

2. Painting Competition: The topics were “Saints of India” for Primary School and “Mera Bharat Mahan (Glory of the Great India)” for High School.

3. Essay Writing: for on the topic “The life is short, The world is transient, They alone live who live for others”- a saying of Swami Vivekananda.

4. Elocution Competition: For High School students – “If I were a parent, how would I grow my children?” and for Primary School students – “Why should I not tell lie?”

5. Quiz Competition: This consisted of 6 rounds of questions culled from the Ramayana, the Mahabharata.

6. Fancy Dress for L.K.G. UKG and First standard students had “Animals and birds” as the theme and from 2nd standard .to 4th Standard children had “Great personalities from the history of India”

In all 1150 students from 22 schools registered their names and among them 552 took part in the competition. A total of 62 prizes along with certificates are being awarded to the winners. Each participant was given participation certificate. Each School who took part in the competition were gifted with a set of “Complete works of Swami Vivekananda”

We are thankful to all the institutional heads, teachers, parents and students for taking part in the competitions and in making it a success. We are sure that such activities will leave behind a lasting impression in the minds of the young participants and it will help them in moulding their lives.

We pray to Sri Ramakrishna, Sri Sarada Devi and Swami Vivekananda to inspire and guide one and all towards the real goal of human life.
