– A Youth Awareness Programme

“Education is the manifestation of the perfection already in man”, says Swami Vivekananda, “We want that education by which character is formed, strength of mind is increased, the intellect is expanded and by which one can stand on one’s own feet.” Swami Vivekananda was himself an illustrious example of his idea of educated youth.

Recognizing the great contribution of Swami Vivekananda in Nation Building the Government of India declared him as the National Ideal for the youth of our country and his birthday is celebrated as the National Youth Day.

Swami Vivekananda had a great vision for the youth of our country. He says, “My faith is in the younger generation, the modern generation, out of them will come my workers. They will work out the whole problem, like lions.”

Realizing this great vision is one of the objectives of the Ramakrishna Math and Mission, an International Organization, founded in 1897 by Swami Vivekananda.

Need of the Hour

The tremendous energy of the youth needs to be channelised into a more constructive manner for the benefit of both the youth and the nation. What the youth need at this hour is right leadership. If there are some youth, who have the right perspective about values and culture, and the vigour to share it with others, it will go a long way to help the youth community to unfold its full potential.

There are a number of youth, who are looking out for guidance. They are troubled by fundamental questions like “What is life? What is the aim of life? Why do I do what I do? Why do good people suffer? How important is ethics and morality in everyday life? Can I excel in my career while sticking to ethics? Is it possible to be a perfect person in this imperfect world? etc. etc.” They are not satisfied with normal answers like “Don’t think too much. Just be happy doing what you like to do.”

With a clear philosophy of life along with proper understanding of values and culture, these inquisitive youth can be developed into beacon lights. The presence of even a handful of such youth in the society can make a huge difference in the process of nation building.
